Going to the Moon
The year 2019 is the 20th anniversary of the Man landing on the Moon. Room 18 decided to celebrate this by making a photo booth where we could take moon landing photos.
Taylor and Caesar painted sides of the box black to emulate space, and added constellations of silver stars once it was well coated and dry. They painted the base grey and added crunched up tinfoil for moon rocks and craters. Then we were ready to go!
Different groups of people designed and made rockets to land on our Moon base. Here are some of our most successful launches.

Year 3 Gymnastics Team
Kate, Charlotte, Luke, Lincoln, Hayden, Taylor from Room 18 are all part of the Middle School Gymnastics Team. They have been coming to school early on Wednesday mornings to practice in the hall for several weeks.
The Cockle Bay gymnastics team competed against other schools in East Auckland. Everyone did a great job, especially Kate and Luke who will compete in the Champ of Champions competition later in the term.
We felt very proud that we had so many people from Room 18 in the gymnastics team. Another cool thing about it was that, when they were away at the gymnastic competition, there were enough chrome books to go round. We had a whole morning doing all our work on our own computer - Maths, Writing, Reading and publishing. It made for a very quiet, calm learning environment.

Scientists at Work
It is interesting to discover how things work, and that is just what we have been trying to do in room 18! So far, we have totally dismantled a television and a vacuum cleaner to see exactly what is inside, and how it might work.
Please donate any old electrical items you no longer use or no longer work, so that we can strip them down and look inside to see what makes them 'tick'.
